The Cannes & Grace experience
So I’ve had 3hrs sleep, and I’m feeling pretty rough. But I don’t really care, because I’m going to Cannes today! It’s always been somewhere I’ve wanted to go but have never had the chance. But finally I do and it’s to support Ms grace jones!
Anyway so I get in the cab from my house dying of anticipation… I just want to board that damn flight. But naturally life wanted to be annoying and we were stuck in traffic for over an hour! Anyway I finally reached the airport, met the band and got some much needed munch from pret.. Porridge mmmm
So boarded the plane, sat next to a jokes guy who slept the whole journey. You know when you’re drifting in and out of sleep and u keep nodding and jerking your head forward, that’s basically what he was doing non-stop for the whole 1hr and 30min of the journey, so that was entertaining…
Anyway as were descending I saw the amazing blue sea, ahhhh I’ve arrived! Its crazy, basically the runway of Nice airport is the coast of the sea.. AMAZING!
Couldn’t wait to get out of the airport and let that sun hit my skin. Naturally my luggage took its precious time coming out of the conveyor! So I walk out of the exit, I see paparazzi, and erm they obviously didn’t know who I was, because I didn’t get papped! Hahaha. Jokes! Then stepped outside and BAM, heat, palm trees SUUUUN! Instant happiness. We then jumped in our taxi and made our way to the hotel.. I couldn’t stop smiling because everywhere was surrounded by palm trees and lushness… Got to the hotel and found out it had an outdoor swimming pool! After dropping all my stuff in my room, I wasted no time and made my way to the pool… I had an hour to spare, so time was of the essence! Here’s a little pic!
So after that much needed tanning session, went back to my room and got ready to go to the Belvedere party… Checked myself in the mirror a few times, didn’t want to make a bad impression to Ms Jones of course.
Now driving through cannes was beautiful but TRES hectic as the Film festival is underway…plenty of yachts and flashy cars to go around though…
So, got to the venue it was real nice and chic, I expected nothing less! So then we’re about to soundcheck when the oraganisers come up to and say’ we’re really sorry Rox, but do you mind holding off soundcheck. Baring in mind we arrived late anyway, and there was only 40min to go before doors open, I was a tad concerned. So I was like, ‘ok… How comes ?’ And she said ‘ because Grace Jones is about to arrive!’ My heart stopped and I suddenly got really nervous! The thing is people, I rarely ever get star struck or affected by famous people. But Ms Grace Jones isn’t just any old famous person, she’s GRACE JONES.
So me and the band waited with baited breath, and 15min later she arrived! Just as I expected, surrounded by her entourage, huge high heels and the classic chic hooded top she’s known for! As she past us to check out the stage she smiled and said ‘Hi’! My heart nearly leapt out of my chest. But externally I remained calm cool and responded with ‘hello’. And after that me and the band were just watching her in awe! Now here are 2 classic lines that she came up with, after only being there for 10min! So she does this whole hula hoop act to ‘slave to the rhythm’. She wanted to make sure there was enough space. So with her hula hoop in hand she said ‘ if anyone gets in the way of my hula hoop, heads will roll’ and the 2nd…’ where’s my fan? I know I’ve got legs like a race horse but I don’t want to sweat like a race horse!’
Soon after that she was off… And we just sat there star struck! We did our sound check and then went to get food and wine at this amazing sea food restaurant called ‘Carte Bancaire EMV’.
After our bellies were full we went back to the venue and got changed. Here’s a little pic of my outfit on the night.
The venue was quite empty at the time, but as soon as we hit the stage around 1am it was pretty full! We had loads of fun onstage, and was particularly impressed by the drunk lady grinding at the front!
Grace came on stage about an hour after us.. And obviously it was the best thing ever. She had about 6 different head dresses and was wearing a black corset with fish net tights..very cabaret! Unfortunately I didn’t get a pic with her, but I have amazing mental images that I will remember forever!
Had such a blast the whole night. My particular favourite was the secret piano bar room… I sang with Julian Lennon and Leigh Lezark which was a particular highlight! Ended up getting back to our hotel for 5.30 and had to leave for Paris at 6.30am.. So I had no sleep! Alriiiight
So there u have it.. The Cannes and Grace experience… Next year again please?!

15 March 2010 Comment [1]ROX Tour Blog 11/03/10
So guys, I’ve had a very eventful week. First off, my album photoshoot. It
went sooooo well, the photographer Kevin Westenberg is a don! We shot in an amazing derilict house in north london. Furnished with amazing vintage
mirrors, leather sofas and wooden floors. For lunch we had roti, mmmmm
rotiiii. Here’s a couple sneaky pics of how it went…
Then the next day I was off to munich! It was my very 1st time in Germany! I did a private gig for Esprit’s new jewellery line and me and the band had a
great night! We only spent the night there & came back home the next day.
That’s the trouble sometimes with what we do, we get to travel loads, but
hardly get to explore we’re the hell we are!
Anyway, a few days later I was off again, but this time to Paris…my
favourite place in the world! I did a couple of tv shows there, one for
Canal plus & the other One Shot Not! Canal plus was in front of a studio
audience and I performed 7 songs with the band…some footage is on its way.
Expect plenty of bogling! I think One Shot Not was my favourite of the two
though. Its like the French equivalent of Jools Holland. Best of all Scott
Matthews performed too. And as some of you may know, I’m obsessed with that dudes voice. Here’s a pic of us bonding after the show… Amazing!
Anyway, after the show me and the band went to an amazing bar in Montmarte and came across the craziest old guy ever. He bought us 2 bottles of champagne and taught us his very own song, which has now become our anthem.
Here’s a little taster of what happened!!!
So there you go, that’s my week in a nutshell. Ill write to you all very
soon.
Take care now

11 March 2010 CommentWelcome to the site!
So here it is, my 1st blog of the website. The site is designed by Jaune Gallais and myself. We worked very hard on this, espeically him as I don’t have clue how to work these design programs!
As u all know I’m the worst blogger in the world, but from today that’s all gonna change… Heard it all before you say? Yep, that may be true, only this time I have about 5 people on my back making sure I get it done!! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t want to write them, it’s more that I over analyse it to the point it just doesn’t get written. So I’ve changed all that, and my new writing technique is – write down whatever comes out.
Anyway, so much has happened since I last wrote a blog. Yesterday I went to the Brits. Was blooooming strange. My 1st time on the red carpet. I was slightly dreading it, just the cringe factor of walking down it and no one knowing who the hell you are. But to my surprise as I was just near the end, the papparrazi screamed out my name and pointed all their cameras at me. I sort of turned round and gave them the ‘who me’ sort of look! Anyway like a true pro I put on my bravest face and struck some poses! I hope it’s a taster of what’s to come.
Anyway I did a couple more interviews, a radio one with the lovely Gemma from 1xtra and a TV one with MTV.
We proceeded the night with dinner and the champagne was flooooooowing. The thing is once you start the night with that you can’t drink anything else, so you can well imagine..
I think the highlight for me was def lady gaga- she was astounding! She’s a true pro unlike that gallagher dude, what an idiot.
So I’ve just finished a round of interviews. One with Sugarscape talking about my 5 top beauty essentials! Naturally one of them was my eyebrow gel! And I also did another with youtube talking about my favorite soul videos…
So the next few weeks are looking very busy. There’s something new in my diary every day! Tomorrow I’ve got a photoshoot for my album cover, with the best stylists avi and damian, amazing makeup artist terry… And the one and only KEVIN WESTENBERG doing the photography. Can’t waaaait!
Take care and ill write to you sooooon. Keep checking the website for updates xxx
