Validator effectiveness measures the rate at which a validator successfully proposes and attests to blocks within a given epoch. It is calculated as a ratio of assigned duties completed against total duties expected during that period.   2. Attestations – confirm the validity of the current chain head. Each validator submits one attestation per epoch, and late or missing attestations reduce the reward assigned to that epoch’s participation.
  3. Sync committee participation – Validators selected for sync committees carry an additional duty set. Missed sync committee contributions reduce rewards independently of attestation and proposal performance, as they are tracked and scored separately by the protocol.
  4. Slashing avoidance – Validators that submit conflicting attestations or double proposals are slashed, receiving a penalty that reduces their stake balance and disqualifies them from further duties until ejection thresholds are assessed.

How do pools distribute staking output?

Staking pools aggregate stake from multiple participants and distribute rewards proportionally after deducting operator fees. The distribution calculation draws directly from the validator’s effectiveness score for each epoch, meaning pool participants receive rewards that reflect the operational performance of the validators their stake is assigned to. Pools operating multiple validators average effectiveness across their entire validator set when calculating participant rewards. A pool with one high-performing and one underperforming validator distributes blended rewards to all participants rather than isolating the output of each validator separately. Participants in pools with consistently high aggregate effectiveness receive a greater cumulative reward share over time compared to those in pools where validator performance varies without correction.
